SONY - CYMATICS 'SET DESIGN'

Sony used ‘Cymatics’ to make earth, water and paint ‘dance to music’ in a TV Commercial to promote their latest speaker system. Together with Unit 9 director Cole Paviour and innovation architect Yifei Chai we designed and built the speaker world and re-created the ‘Cymatics’ experiment. The effect was first discovered in 1680 by Robert Hooke who created the visualisation of sound through controlled placement of liquids and particles on vibrating plates and membranes. The spot was nominated for numerous awards and won a VOTD under the “Best Commercial of the Day” category in July 2015.
